The under £50 midi dresses you can wear now – and in spring too

You’re probably thinking that the weather we’ve had – cold and wet – isn’t conducive to anything other than rubber boots and one raincoat when it comes to your wardrobe. The winds blew, the drizzle came from all directions, and honestly, a dress wasn’t our first choice over our comfiest pair of jeans (or tracksuit bottoms).

However, with fashion month exposed to the same storms (kicking off with last week’s couture shows), our favorite street stars showed us how dressing for inclement weather can be done. Surprisingly, the humble midi dress was a common sight on the sidewalk and catwalks. Fashionistas were seen wearing bright variations of the dress despite the weather, but layering them with turtlenecks, woolen coats and ankle boots with sufficiently durable soles. Kate Middleton is also a fan – and wore one last week, a patterned style by Derek Lam, with his favorite pair of hoops.

Check out some of the style tips from the fashion set – knee high boots that disappear under the hem, thermal vests and cardigans layered under a faux fur coat, etc. – and you can keep wearing your midi dresses, especially the long-sleeved ones, all year round, rain or shine.

Green is a great trans-seasonal color – and perfect for invigorating your wardrobe when the weather outside is less than welcoming (Nobody’s child has a dress with puff sleeves in a pretty jade). But if you are not interested in wearing a bright dress in winter, choose a neutral color, like beigewhich always seems to be a popular choice on the street style circuit in Copenhagen. Mango’s floral dresswith its black background and cream flowers, is a brilliant mat that can be worn with high cowboy boots now (go ahead, we dare you) and two-strap sandals during the summer.

There are also plenty of dress styles to choose from, whether you prefer something slightly more streamlined or something with ruffles and puffs. So keep scrolling to see which midi dresses we’ll be wearing during the next cold snap. Oh, and they’re all under £50. Please.
