Inside the fantastic Star Wars themed couples wedding in Waterford

The couple had an incredibly unique wedding, with a traditional Celtic hand-fastening ceremony and an original “cheesy vintage” theme that made the day so memorable.

Tara Moore and Mark Hosford, both from Waterford

Our Celebrant Aoife Hurley, from Spiritual Ceremonies, made our ceremony so special and personal, she helped us create our own ceremony. It was like being married off by a close friend. We already knew we wanted to do a hand fasting ceremony, and that was about all we got!

Aoife introduced us to “words of wisdom” that we had never encountered before. Almost like the prayers of the faithful in a Catholic ceremony, they were sayings or short poems filled with useful advice on love and married life. We and our guests really enjoyed these, especially the quote from Ogden Nash (“To make your marriage overflow, With love in the love cup, whenever you’re wrong, admit it; Whenever you’re right, shut up. “), Which was delivered with great poise and delight by my aunt! We really wanted to laugh at our wedding and our readings definitely got it, and even a few tears!

We celebrated our wedding and reception at the Langton House Hotel in Kilkenny. We had our wedding ceremony in the amazing Set Theater and had our reception in the ballroom.

We hosted a cocktail party at the Marble Bar, which allowed our guests to relax and mingle as much as they felt comfortable, while we ducked out to take photos. The rest of our reception was in the gorgeous Ballroom, where we continued our Vintage / Nerdy theme with table names of some of our favorite fictional place names. We also placed small signs on each table, in the style of written descriptions from silent movies with quotes from our favorite movies, books and songs, all inspired by love. Our wedding cake was topped with large lego Wonder Woman and Boba Fett figures (from Star Wars) and surrounded by edible Death Stars and Millennium Falcons. I made my bouquet myself in the brooch bouquet style and had plenty of Star Wars, Wonder Woman, and other nerdy items on it!

Our original date was February 2021 as we have a very special connection to this month as our two birthdays are in February and we got together in February! As the time drew closer we knew we weren’t getting the numbers we hoped for, so we considered postponing.

I bought my dress from Amore Bridal in Youghal Co. Cork. The dress was the Ilaria by Victoria Jane line by designer Ronald Joyce. The experience I had at Amore Bridal was brilliant from start to finish, they had a wide range of dresses and their advice on dress styles was perfect.

My dad pulled out my oldest teddy bear during his speech and recounted my childhood adventures where I packed my teddy bear and attempted to cross the street to my grandparents’ house to live with them when I was feeding my vegetables.
