Diva Donations, a local non-profit organization, moves into a new home in Boardman
BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) — Reunion season is upon us, and parents of teens know it can get expensive. Diva Donations offers an alternative and has a new location.
The clothes racks for Diva Donations are in a new location. The dresses now hang in Boardman, on the ground floor of a former church. Diva Donations leases the space to Believers Church, which now owns the building.
“We searched for a long time. We were getting a little nervous and then it opened up and it couldn’t be more perfect. We love it,” said Allison Saxon, Vice President of Diva Donations.
“It feels like a whole new world for us,” said Kristin Bodendorfer, founder of Diva Donations.
The store had to move because its lease was not renewed at its former home. Diva Donations is a formal clothing closet that helps girls afford big events.
“Girls can come and borrow a dress, shoes and jewelry in exchange for two hours of volunteering to help any 501(c)(3) charity in their area,” Bodendorfer said.
There are 2,500 evening dresses, and prom dresses are yet to come. Everyone should be able to find something, even matching shoes.
Diva Donations has a volunteer helping each person. They can get a dress, jewelry, shoes, and even a handbag to finish off the outfit.
“So that’s what’s different about us is that they get the whole experience, head to toe,” Saxon said.
Diva Donations helps 600 people a year. He plans to sell wedding dresses and have a party hall. He also wants to attract sponsors to help the girls for the reunion or prom.
Diva Donations will need new sources of income since the new rent is four times what he was paying.
“It can help us stay in this place and pay the bills we have to pay so we’re there for everyone,” Saxon said.
Diva Donations also sells vintage clothing. Consider it if you need a Halloween costume.
Diva Donations is just around the corner of Western Reserve and Hitchcock Roads.
