(STL.News) Hosting a corporate event is a great way to help your team bond and increase workplace productivity, satisfaction, and collaboration. Enterprise events can be especially beneficial for businesses that operate on a hybrid or fully remote system. Corporate events get a bad rap for being stuffy or too boozy, so giving your event a theme can be a great way to help your team loosen up and have fun.

Retreats and corporate events may once have been team-building exercises, but many employers recognize that enjoying quality time outside of work can be even better at improving trust and relationships within the workplace. the team. A theme can show your team that you want them to have fun and leave work behind.

Retro 80s

Thanks to the popularity of TV shows like Glow and stranger things, the style of the 80s is coming back into fashion in a big way. Hosting an ’80s-themed event can be a great way to capitalize on your team’s fun for retro fashion or even bring some of the older team members back to their younger years.

You can get an 80s theme by renting out a retro arcade, ice rinks, or nightclub for your employees to enjoy. Foods can range from retro designs to 80s favourites. Dress code can be all bright colors, big hair and shoulder pads.

AWARDS CEREMONY

An awards ceremony-themed corporate party can be a fun way to spend an evening networking and bonding. Categories will need to be selected carefully to ensure no one gets angry or offended. The event could be set up similarly to awards shows throughout the entertainment industry, with guests wearing their best formal wear and seated in small groups at tables throughout the venue. .

Masquerade

A masquerade can be another fun and whimsical option and it’s much easier for participants to make a costume. You must choose a lavish venue for a masquerade to match the dramatic evening wear and intricate masks worn by the participants. The food could be a casual buffet style for guests to enjoy between dancing and drinks.

winter wonderland

The winter wonderland can be a great option for corporate Christmas parties. While it might seem like an obvious choice, it’s a classic for good reason. Christmas parties usually take place shortly before employees leave for their Christmas vacation, so throwing a winter wonderland party can really help get them into the holiday spirit. The food should be warming winter fare or a full Christmas dinner, and the dress code is best like smart casual.

james bond

A casino-style party can be a fun and exciting option for your team. You could rent space and hire professional croupiers to handle the gaming tables for your employees. You could even rent a private room in a real casino. Be sure to include signature cocktails and a buffet-style dinner to keep your team energized as they enjoy the casino-themed event, and do the black tie dress code and cocktail dresses.

To help your team get into the James Bond spirit, encouraging them to try out a few casino games beforehand can be a great idea. Online Casinos has an excellent directory of virtual casinos to recommend and try so you can channel your best inner James Bond on the day of the party.

Haunted house

For fans of the spookiest season, a haunted house-themed Halloween company party can be a great choice. There are haunted houses scattered all over the country, and if there aren’t enough of them near you, you can rent any space and invest in spooky decorations to make it spooky.

The foods can all be Halloween themed, so lots of pumpkin, candy, and chocolate treats. The dress code will naturally also be Halloween themed, so anything from the creepy side, like witches to vampires, to the more docile end, like doctors and builders.

Treasure hunt

Organizing a scavenger hunt as part of your office event can be a great way to encourage team spirit. You will need a large location with many different rooms and areas to hide clues and for your employees to explore. Renting an entire country house can be an ideal option. You can then provide each guest with a map and a list of clues to go through. Be sure to include plenty of prizes for everything that goes into the effort of solving the treasure hunt.

High society

If you want to be really classy with your next corporate event, you can make the theme relate to high society. You’ll need to rent a sufficiently impressive location like a country house or mansion, and then plan activities based on past upperclass pastimes. Lawn sports, including croquet, are a must.

For meals, it will depend on the time of day the event is taking place. For daytime events, serving afternoon tea is a must, while for evening events, a quality three-course meal or more is essential. As a dress code, you can encourage attendees to wear their fanciest evening attire.

Funfair

A carnival-themed party is something that will be etched in your team’s memories. You will need to choose a suitably warm and dry day to accommodate, so between July and September is ideal. You can rent a local funfair for the exclusive use of your team, including all rides, food stalls and games.

This can be an interesting and easy option, as all the entertainment and catering will come with the funfair itself. The dress code for this option should also be casual to allow participants to enjoy the rides and activities comfortably and safely.

Hollywood

Treat your team like the stars they are by hosting a Hollywood-themed event. Having a red carpet entrance is a must, complete with a professional “paparazzi” photographer. Once inside, you should wow your guests with a decadent interior with lots of gold accents. Foods can be snacks like popcorn and hot dogs or something extravagant like champagne and lobster.

The crownThe long-awaited fifth season of opens with a surprise flashback to Queen Elizabeth, played by Claire Foybaptizing the Royal Yacht Britannia to jubilant cheers in 1954, the year after she was crown at the age of 27. The season premiere, “Queen Victoria Syndrome,” then skips nearly four decades to introduce the franchise’s latest iteration of the aging monarch, played by Imelda Staunton, shortly after being branded “irrelevant, old, expensive and out of touch” by her once-adoring constituents in 1991. How far the crown has fallen in favour.

In the face of his advanced age, his country’s aspiration to modernity and a global recession, not to mention a multitude of projects to come scandals involving members of her family – this new chapter will not be joyful for our queen, as the season premiere suggests. And his first heartache comes suddenly in the form of the Royal Yacht Britannia, which, with its operating price of around $18 million a year and its need for costly upgrades, simply seems too lavish and impractical an expense for the public to keep walking.

Nevertheless, the Queen makes a plea during an audience with Prime Minister John Major (Johnny Lee Miller) for additional funding. “All my palaces were inherited,” the queen explains, in one of the least relevant phrases the character has ever uttered. “They all bear the imprint of my predecessors. Only Brittany I was truly able to create my own… From the hull design to the smallest piece of porcelain, she is a floating, maritime expression of me.

The royal yacht Brittany leaving Portsmouth, England with the Royal Family on board for its traditional cruise around the Western Isles of Scotland on August 7, 1997.

By Tim Graham Photo Library/Getty Images.

The true 412-foot royal yacht, built to replace her predecessor, the Victoria and Albert– was a real treat for Queen Elizabeth and the backdrop for many happy family memories. The ship’s construction came at a delicate time for the royal family, shortly after Elizabeth became queen at a surprisingly young age and Philip was forced to give up his naval career, surname and identity. . Brittany became a kind of release valve for Philip, who had served as Commander of the Royal Navy, and was able to oversee the design of the yacht’s technical features. The Queen, meanwhile, has handpicked fabrics and chintz details down to door handles and lampshades. It was the only house that Elizabeth and Philip had really had a hand in designing and was equipped with a bolt-on piano for singing in the evenings, framed family photos, souvenirs from trips around the world and a terrace equipped with wicker furniture.

Since the Queen and Philip used the yacht on their extended visits to the Commonwealth, the floating palace also featured formal accommodations suitable for entertaining 13 US presidents, including the Eisenhowers, Fords, Reagans and Clintons. In addition to a grand staircase, silver and crystal tableware, and a wine cellar, Brittany featured a state dining room large enough to seat 100 people that could be converted into a private cinema.

The complete privacy offered by the ship is one of the reasons the Queen has described it as ‘the only place I can really relax’. According by Sally Bedell-Smith Biography Elizabeth the Queen: The Life of a Modern Monarch, the queen even stowed her designer skirts and dresses on board. “It was one of the few times the Queen wore trousers other than on horseback or in outdoor sports, mainly to be able to easily (and modestly) climb up and down the ladders and on the rowboats when they landed on deserted beaches. for picnics,” Smith wrote. The Brittany also provided the Queen with other opportunities to play informality. For example, the sailor on board “was not wearing his cap while at sea, which means that sailors are technically out of uniform and are not required to salute, allowing the Queen to walk around the ship without official recognition,” reported The New York Times in 1983, adding that sailors were doing their best to act invisibly around the monarch. “They were trained to carry out orders on the upper deck, where the Queen’s private quarters are, without words or orders.”

The yacht was also a physical reminder of some precious moments for the family. In 1954, the ship’s maiden voyage reunited the Queen and Philip with their young children, Charles and Anna, after almost 18 months without them. “The ice broke very quickly and we were subjected to a very energetic routine and countless questions that left us speechless!” the queen Told his mother.) From the 1960s, the Royal Family began an annual tradition of cruising through the Western Isles of Scotland en route to Balmoral for the holidays, picnic stop and visit of the Queen Mother at the Château de Mey. There was a toboggan that family members would rush over with joy and humorous performances organized by the yacht’s staff. (The former yacht manager recently reminded the Queen and Philip “absolutely laughed at the stupid antics we did” during her 16 years on board.) When Anne turned 21, she would have celebrated with a party in the State Dining Hall, which had been transformed into a ballroom with a dance floor.

OK; this is the critical moment.

My 50-year-old high school reunion is less than two weeks away. I’ve lost all the weight I’m going to lose (none) so I’m ready to shop for a new outfit that will disguise 50 years old, 50 pounds, three babies and a sedentary lifestyle.

I should be able to find it at the mall.

My daughter stopped by to give youth advice. “Get something MODERN!! Something you don’t usually wear!

Thanks.

I planned my buying strategy like Patton on NoDoz. I have comfortable shoes and just finished an Egg McMuffin.

I know what I’m looking for. Here are some criteria:

1. Nothing sleeveless. Already. I have enough skin on my upper arm to smother small children with a long hug.

2. No necklines. Everything I’ve ever worn on my chest fell into a coma twenty years ago. High neckline… maybe any collar.

3. Watch for strong colors. I love them, but I’ve been told that bright orange is no seasoned woman’s friend. Must find something fancy. Slightly dark.

OK; so far I have described the habit of a nun.

But I want to look mature without looking matronly. Confident, without appearing pretentious. And above all: dressed, without the shadow of having put a whole day of effort and a wad of money into the selection and purchase of a brand new outfit.

JCPenney was a failure. Nothing at Macys. I continue. Famous-Barr was just ahead.

“Dresses?” The saleswoman wrinkled her nose and sniffed the air; a rhinestone-collared beagle trying to detect a scent. “Try the lower level?” Behind the evening dress? »

I waited a moment at the end of either of his sentences, but all I was left with was the question marks. So I boarded the escalator.

It was darker down there. All contemporary life was on the upper floor.

I had just entered the “old-fashioned zone”.

My feet tapped hollow echoes, like the jerky horse sounds we made with those coconut shells in kindergarten music class.

I didn’t see any other customers. No cashiers. Just me, moving like a gray ghost under flickering, unflattering, fluorescent lights.

Dresses? I found them around here? Just where had she guessed?

The display contained a depressing display of mid-calf caftans, blue denim sweaters and ruffled dresses that would only be suitable for funerals. I leafed through them, finding two that I didn’t dislike.

One was a size 5 – the other a 7. Even if I separated the seams and sewed them together they wouldn’t fit.

Not a single store in the entire mall had any contact with the person I had become in the 50 years since graduating from high school. I was older, wiser and… oh

So wanting to walk into this meeting like I just got off the bus on high school dress-up day instead of senior bus-to-Walmart day. Was it so much to ask?

I drove home from the mall, munching on a Frito burrito. I knew what I was going to hear. Andrea stared in disbelief at my empty hands, not understanding the possibility of shopping without buying anything. Then she smiled knowingly.

“Don’t give up, mom. I will go with you tomorrow. There must be SOMETHING out there that will suit you and look pretty.

And my husband, who hasn’t bought a new shirt since my 30-year reunion (and will probably wear it again for this one), will look up from the baseball game on TV and smile absently. .

“Hey, honey – I like what you’re wearing. Is that what you bought to wear to the meeting? Looks awesome. Can you put some popcorn in the microwave when you get some opportunity?”

Maybe I’ll stay home sick and ask my daughter to write an apology.

Meet the 411: Another ’90s shoe trend is back, so make room in your new shoe collection. big clogs and “Loafers inspired by “Meg Ryan” for a new pair. Enter, the Mary Jane, a shoe popularized by the fictional Cher Horowitz and the real Sarah Jessica Parker, among many others. The Mary Jane is a classic shoe that debuted as a closed-toe flat shoe with a buckled strap across the top of the foot. Picture a doll shoe (which is another name for the trend, BTW) and you’ve got the right idea.

While Mary Janes were originally a simple buckled flat shoe, they have long since grown with new details such as chunky doles, double straps and beautiful textiles, sometimes even a combination of all three. That’s why low-profile shoes are paired with everything from dresses and skirts to pants and jeans: they’re universal. But like more other fashionable shoes, their levels of fit and comfort are not.

The best Mary Janes, at a glance:

To ensure you add a pair of supportive MJs to your wardrobe this fall, a nationally renowned podiatrist Jacqueline Sutera, DPMwhich is a Vionic Innovation Member, says to look for Mary Janes with cushion and arch support or, at the very least, enough room to accommodate a cushioned insole. “Avoid styles that appear tight, cramped, or stiff,” she says. With that in mind, she recommends avoiding pointy Mary Janes and instead opting for styles with a roomy round toe that matches the natural shape of your forefoot.

Sutera says to pay attention to the heel as well, noting that a low to moderate heel height (around 2.5 inches) is best if all-day comfort is the goal. “Mary Janes with adjustable straps and rubber soles tend to be the most comfortable,” she adds.

Finally, she says to look for Mary Janes with a flexible forefoot. “The shoe should bend in the forefoot to allow your foot to move normally as you walk,” she says. “Platform styles or Mary Janes with stiff soles that do not bend or flex throughout the gait cycle will block and limit the normal range of motion. These usually end up being uncomfortable after walking around in them for a bit.

Dr. Martens, 8065 Smooth Leather Mary Jane Shoes — $130.00

Sizes available: 5-11

Sold in black and white, Dr. Marten’s 8065 Smooth Leather Mary Jane Shoes are a timeless style worn on the runways and on the sidewalks. They’re moody, retro (considering it’s an 80s style that’s been revamped) and 100% trendy. Like all Docs, they should be worn to soften the leather and hug your feet. But once they’re broken in, they’re about as comfortable as they come.

Duck Feet, Lolland Mary Janes – $208.00

Sizes available: 5-12, in European sizes.

Sold in nine gorgeous colors, the Duckfeet Lolland Mary Janes are akin to Doc Martens in that they’re reinvented schoolyard classics that have been around for decades. While these shoes aren’t the best of an insole position – given that there’s no built-in arch support – they’re designed to be roomy and wide, so they can accommodate custom, store-bought inserts for tailored comfort. Bonus: they’re made entirely from eco-friendly materials, like natural rubber and Terracare leather, made with fewer resources than traditional leather.

Sam Edelman, Michaela Mary Jane Apartment — $130.00

Sizes available: 5-11, in half sizes.

Here we’ve got a classic baby doll shoe in a bunch of fun colors and textures, all featuring a padded leather insole for your tired tootsies. The tapered square toe gives the illusion of a spike while maintaining the comfort of that roomy toe box suggested by Dr. Sutera. As classic as the black patent option is, we can’t take our eyes off the deluxe velor colors that are perfect for cold winter temperatures, especially the warm velor Canyon Orange and Smokey Blue Steely.

Rothy’s, the Mary Jane scarf — $159.00

Sizes available: 5-13, in half sizes.

For a more relaxed silhouette, Rothy’s mesh style is a great option. Instead of a buckle, these soft shoes (sold in four colors) are designed with a stretchy strap that retains its shape even after being put on and taken off the feet. Beyond their flexible and comfortable silhouette, they’re made with a cushioned insole so you can wear them for hours without ending up with aches and pains. Best of all, they’re machine washable.

Naturalizer, Gen N Spark Mary Jane Pump – $150.00

Sizes available: 4-12, in half sizes.

While the Naturalizer Mary Jane pumps have a higher heel (3.25 inches) than Sutera normally suggests, their malleable “All-Ways Flex” platform in the forefoot aims to reduce the difference in height, making it a comfortable and stylish option. Especially if you have a more formal occasion, like a Christmas party or an in-person get-together (do we still do that?), they’ll look classy without killing your feet. Now the only question is, will you choose black leather or beige suede?

Dansko, Beatrice Mary Janes — $140.00

Sizes available: 6-12, in European sizes.

The Dansko Beatrice Mary Janes, which come in black and red leather, look like something you’d see in every direction at your local farmer’s market. They’re casual, comfy, and cute as can be, in that granola-y way that’s so on-trend for Fall 2022. And it’s not just the look, but the feel that stands out. They’re built with an EVA footbed infused with memory foam for cushioning and support, so you’ll be happy to wear them to your own farmer’s market, even when the line for the butternut squash is spooled up. Street corner.

Cole Haan, Bridge Mary Jane Ballet — $150.00

Sizes available: 7-11, in half sizes.

Love the look of a classic Mary Jane, but prefer a tapered square toe over a rounded toe? The Cole Haan Bridge Mary Jane Ballet is the timeless black patent leather silhouette you crave. Like the Same Edelman MJs, they have a semi-pointed design that is surprisingly roomy. Oh, and did we mention they’re made with foam arch support? Comfortable! Choose between a simple black print, a gold lizard or a fierce leopard print.

Circus by Sam Edelman, Kay Mary Jane Heel – $90.00

Sizes available: 6-10, in half sizes.

Ready to break out your Mary Janes for a night out on the town? Check out the Circus by Sam Edelman Kay Mary Jane Heel, which is sold in six colors. The vintage-inspired platform heel and forefoot make them way easier to wear all night than your normal pumps or even your little heels. That said, if you find heels of any kind disrupting your forefoot at some point during the night, do yourself a favor and outfit your GMs with some extra cushioning, like Dr. Scholl’s Ball of Foot Pads ($7) – they are absolutely a game changer

Asos Design, Sebi Chunky Mary Jane Heels – $46.00

Sizes available: 4-11

If you’re looking for a timeless-looking pair of Mary Janes that won’t drain your bank account, give these a try. Their round-toe black patent upper is absolutely classic with skirts, pants and dresses, while the low block heel and 1-inch forefoot platform give you just a little height. Since both platforms are sturdy and wide, they maintain optimum comfort when turned on. Oh yeah, and they’re only $46.

Clarks, Emslie Lulin Pump — $70.00

Sizes available: 5-12, in half sizes and three widths.

Likewise, this pair of Clarks is relatively affordable and lives up to the brand’s reputation of being durable and easy on the feet. The entire interior of the shoe is padded to prevent heel and toe blisters, and the insole is fitted with a cushioned, breathable OrthoLite sockliner, so you’ll feel stellar as you walk. The slight details catch the eye to give it a bit of punch, too, a chic twist to an otherwise minimalist look.

Bars. Parties. Volleyball teams. Dating apps. For singles, the question of where to meet is vital.

“Am I really going to meet my wife at a grocery store?” asks Cole Barnett, a 27-year-old realtor and contestant on Season 3 of the Netflix dating show Love Is Blind. The supposed answer is no, no matter how often he roams the aisles of his local Trader Joe’s, eyeing both frozen Thai vegetable dumplings and other shoppers’ ring fingers.

That’s why, apparently, Cole and 29 other singles chose to seek love and not a crowded club or busy bookstore. Instead, they headed for “pods” just big enough to hold a couch and all their expectation, the person on the other side of a soothing, swirling blue wall is wedding material.

“There’s something about pods that really allows people to be incredibly vulnerable,” said Ally Simpson, executive producer of Love Is Blind.

The first four episodes of Season 3 of Love Is Blind were released on Netflix this week. For those who have managed to avoid the memes, the show puts singles in their 20s and 30s in small rooms called pods, where they talk to each other for hours without seeing each other. Until they get engaged, that is.

The show explores whether people can fall in love without the usual issues like age, height, or weight getting in their way. (It helps that most of the cast are labeled as conventionally attractive.) After meeting in person, the engaged couple spend time at a resort, live in shared apartments, and ideally walk to the altar. Since the show began in 2020, there have been four marriages, two of which ended in divorce. But it all starts with dates in the pods.

Each octagonal pod has one of the aforementioned sofas – gray and usually rounded or square – and a circular ottoman that rests on a long strip of dark red rug (red being a nod to love and romance) . Walls are plush, and pillows are usually a mix of earthy browns and reds. Although you can’t see it on the screen, each pod contains hidden snacks.

Simpson said there were two main goals in designing the pods: they have to be comfortable and they can’t be awkward.

“We want you to go there and feel like you’re at home, feel like you’re on a date and just be a comfortable place to be for a long, long time – they talk for hours and hours,” Simpson told me over the phone.

Some daters certainly feel comfortable. While most start out dressed in three-piece suits and silky semi-formal dresses, inevitably they begin to enter the pods in activewear, carrying their blankets and the signature gold metal tumblers that have gone viral. The Prim posture gives way to sitting on the floor or lying on the sofa. Or, in the case of 29-year-old Pilates instructor Raven Ross, jumping jacks.

Although pods are sparsely provided, actors can ask producers for anything from more elaborate themed dates to facial masks to nachos. In the first batch of episodes this season, Ross brings yoga balls for her and her date (and later an exercise band). There was a silent disco where the actors could listen to music among themselves through headphones. Simpson even said there was a beach-themed get-together, including beach chairs, which didn’t make it into the season finale cut.

“If you’re going to marry someone, you want to know you can have fun with them,” Simpson said. “You want to know, do we connect on the music? When she gets her sushi, is she picky about what sauce was there or not? You want to create these experiences to try to learn the most possible on each other.”

talk to the wall

The larger color palette of the pods can be quite muted, but there is a noticeable bright band of color in each pod. The sofas face a blue wall that shines and swirls. Simpson said it was meant to symbolize the energy of the person in the adjacent pod, to help daters feel closer and less like they were just listening to a voice coming through a speaker from elsewhere. She said the show’s producers spent time sitting, staring at the wall themselves and wondering if it’s right for them.

“If it was just a white wall, you might feel like you were all alone in this room,” Simpson said. They landed on the blue tone of the wall as something inviting without being a distraction.

When it comes time to propose, most of the time couples get up from the couch and face each other through that blue wall.

netflix

As eager as couples are to get out of the pods and, you know, watch each other, for some, those pod conversations end up being the easiest part of the relationship. Season 1’s Mark Cuevas and Jessica Batten went through their share of turmoil — partly because Jessica was hooked up to another pod guy — but in a last ditch effort to reconnect, Mark tried to recreate the pod experience in their apartment.

The couple sat on opposite sides of a wall with candles, rose petals and fancy dinners, and as Simpson pointed out, that night was the night they finally took the leap of having sexual relations.

“It can be scary to look someone in the eye and share something,” Simpson said. “It just makes you feel safe, like, ‘I’m just going to put it on the wall. I know someone’s on the other side, but I feel like I’m telling the wall.'”

Don’t panic when a voice behind the wall asks you to marry him.
